Our Mission

The mission of the Masters of Music in Choral Conducting at the Frost School of Music is to (1) provide a music performance-based education and to train conductors to further develop the necessary skills and techniques to be competitive with other conductors in graduate school or the professional field; (2) to provide a platform of learning that includes excellence in performance, creativity, artistry, and scholarship; and (3) to foster a sense of community involvement in the arts and the greater musical world. 
   

  • Goal 1. Establishment of foundational principles of advanced level conducting
  • Goal 2. Development of graduate-level skills in creativity, musicianship, and scholarship
  • Goal 3. Use of technology to enhance research and performance skills   
  • Goal 4. To recruit the highest level musician/scholar for the program and help that individual understand and participate in the musical fabric of the community 

Admissions Information

Candidates for the Master of Music in Choral Conducting at the University of Miami Frost School of Music must possess and demonstrate a gift of musical leadership based upon experience with choral ensembles and a solid foundation of training. Admission requirements include a baccalaureate degree in music, and practical experience in choral conducting through church, school, or community ensembles is preferred. Enrollment in this major is only by special permission via application and audition. Please find links regarding the curriculum, how to apply, and the application requirements below.
